Corporate Event Planning
There is a version of corporate event planning that is really just booking a room and hoping for the best. I have spent my career doing the opposite. A corporate event, done properly, is one of the most powerful things a company can invest in. It is a thank-you to a team, a statement to your clients, and a chance to show your industry exactly who you are. Get it right and people remember it long afterwards.
In this guide I want to demystify what corporate event planning in London actually involves, the kinds of events my team and I create, and how to choose the right planner for the occasion. It is the advice I give my own clients when they are deciding how to mark a milestone, launch something, or simply bring their people together properly.
What Corporate Event Planning Actually Involves
Corporate event planning is the end-to-end process of designing, organising and delivering an event on behalf of a business, from the first brief to the last guest leaving. In practice that means shaping the concept, finding and booking the venue, managing the budget and timeline, coordinating catering, styling and production, booking entertainment and staff, and running the event on the day. A good corporate event planner carries all of that, so you can be a guest at your own event rather than the person watching the clock.
The reason it matters is simple. Your people and your clients can tell the difference between an event that was thrown together or off the shelf and one that was really and truly considered end to end with your brand in mind. The detail is the message. That is the part I care about most, and it is where a specialist planner earns their place.
The Corporate Events We Plan
Corporate events come in many shapes, and each has its own rhythm. These are the ones my team and I are asked for most often:
- Conferences and away days. Bringing a company together to learn, align and reconnect, with the logistics handled so the content can shine.
- Awards and gala dinners. Formal, high-impact evenings that celebrate people and mark the year, with styling and production to match the occasion.
- Summer parties. Relaxed, sociable celebrations that give a team something to look forward to, indoors or out.
- Christmas parties. The end-of-year thank-you, from intimate dinners to full themed productions.
- Product launches and brand activations. Events built to land a message and create talking points, for guests in the room and audiences beyond it.
- Client hospitality and networking. Polished, understated occasions where the guest list and the impression both matter.
- Leadership offsites and incentives. Rewarding and reconnecting senior teams, often with an overnight or countryside element.
How I Approach a Corporate Event
Every event I plan follows the same disciplined path, however different the end result looks.
1. The brief and the goal.
Before anything creative, I want to know what the event is really for, who is coming, and what success looks like. Everything flows from that.
2. Concept and creative.
One strong idea at the heart of the event, which then guides the venue, the menu, the styling and the entertainment so it all feels cohesive.
3. Venue and suppliers.
Finding the right space and the right people, and negotiating and managing them on your behalf. We do venue finding year-round and keep our supplier list current.
4. Production, styling and entertainment.
The detail that turns a room into an experience: lighting, staging, flowers, table design, food and the entertainment that sets the tone.
5. Delivery on the day.
My team runs the event from set-up to the final song, so nothing lands on your desk and no one from your side has to manage a supplier at 9 pm.
Having worked across so many different sectors throughout my 30+ year career in marketing and events, I have the ability to get under the skin of your brand. This comes from a true understanding of every industry and how your organisation might tick. For example, Vivienne Westwood doesn’t want to sit at a table with a 3-course meal! They want creativity, great drinks and something a bit ‘out there’! So it’s my job to find the right venue at the right price and then use my creative powers for the entertainment piece. Think drag queens, games and even a real tattoo artist at the party!! But drag queens are not for everyone. It might be food and an incredible band that are the priority, so it’s my job to align the event to your people and your brand so that everyone has the best possible evening.
Choosing a Corporate Event Planner in London
London is full of choice, so it helps to know what separates a good corporate event planner from a safe pair of hands. I would look for three things: genuine creative range, so your event does not look like everyone else’s; real supplier relationships, because that is what protects quality and budget; and the confidence to run the day so you are not left holding the details.
If your event sits at the premium end, it is worth working with luxury corporate event planners in London who understand that tone is everything, from the first invitation to the last carriage. A generalist corporate events company can organise a room. A specialist makes it feel like yours.
Why Sugar & Rind
What makes Sugar & Rind different is a multitude of factors: the polish and discretion of corporate event planning, with the creativity and warmth of the private celebrations market. We work across London, the home counties, the Cotswolds and Somerset, with Michelin-trained chefs and award-winning suppliers, and we are as comfortable with a formal gala dinner as we are with a bold, characterful themed party.
In September of 2025, we organised our biggest and boldest corporate event to date. A wonderful brief, our client, Brown & Burke, wanted a 25th anniversary celebration to remember. The brief was as follows:
- Hotel arrival and welcome
- A boat ride on the Thames
- Rest & Relaxation
- A Stunning Gala Dinner
- A Bollywood Show
- DJ and Dancing
Grandeur was required, so we selected the most luxurious boat on the river—The Silver Sturgeon. Our guests cruised the Thames on a sunny afternoon and were wonderfully entertained by our fabulous mind reader, Alex Crowe. Then they headed back to their hotel at 8 Northumberland for some R&R. At 7 pm they gathered at The Ballroom for cocktails and canapés, where they were greeted by our champagne-mirror madames and our gold-sequined dancing men. Next up were our Dohl drummers, who led them to a 3-course dinner from the amazing caterer, Madhus. Each course was interwoven with stunning entertainment, ranging from fire-eating performers to contortionists. Once the entertainment ended, guests made their way to the downstairs ballroom, where they danced the night away to our stunning drag-queen DJ. It was an incredible night of opulence and wonder that will be remembered by all for years to come!
Here’s what the client said.
“Sugar & Rind organised our 25th anniversary event, and the result was polished, thoughtful, and effortlessly well-run. Their attention to detail was clear throughout — from the planning and pacing of the evening to the small touches that made guests feel genuinely looked after. Professional, calm under pressure, and always willing to go the extra mile. Highly recommended.’

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is corporate event planning?
A: Corporate event planning is the process of designing, organising and delivering an event for a business, from the first brief to the day itself. It covers the concept, venue, budget, catering, styling, production, entertainment, staffing and on-the-day management, so the company can take part rather than run it.
Q: What does a corporate event planner do?
A: A corporate event planner shapes the idea, finds and manages the venue and suppliers, controls the budget and timeline, and runs the event on the day. In short, they carry the detail and the pressure so your team can be guests at their own event.
Q: How much does corporate event planning cost?
A: It depends entirely on the format, guest numbers, venue, catering and production, so there is no single figure. We build each event around your budget and provide a clear, tailored proposal after an initial conversation.
Q: How far in advance should I book a corporate event planner?
A: As early as you can. For larger events and for peak seasons such as summer and Christmas, the best venues and suppliers are booked first, so starting months ahead gives you the pick of the options rather than what is left.
Q: What types of corporate events do you plan?
A: Conferences and away days, awards and gala dinners, summer parties, Christmas parties, product launches and brand activations, client hospitality and networking, and leadership offsites and incentives.
Q: Do you plan corporate events outside London?
A: Yes. We plan corporate events across London, the home counties, the Cotswolds and Somerset, including countryside venues and events at your own premises.
